Glen Ellen Park Offers New Reason to Get Outside in Sonoma County This Fall

If you’ve been looking for a new reason to get outside and enjoy Sonoma County’s natural beauty, look no further than Glen Ellen’s Jack London State Historic Park this fall. Known for its stunning views and rich history, the park is hosting the 2024 WILD Trail Challenge, a hiking series that will take outdoor enthusiasts on a journey through the park’s diverse trails and landscapes. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking to explore new trails, this challenge offers the perfect blend of fitness and exploration.

What is the WILD Trail Challenge?

The WILD Trail Challenge is a series of five hikes, each taking place on consecutive Saturdays from Sept. 7 to Oct. 5, 2024. Designed to gradually increase in difficulty, the hikes offer participants the chance to explore the park’s historical sites, scenic views, and natural beauty.

The challenge was developed by Malcolm Walter, board president of Jack London Park Partners, the nonprofit organization that operates the park. Inspired by his personal goal of hiking every trail in the park, Walter mapped out a series of treks that cover Jack London’s historic lands. Now, the public can enjoy these hikes and discover the magic of the park for themselves.

Each hike focuses on different regions of the park, from historic sites like Beauty Ranch and the Wolf House ruins to awe-inspiring natural landmarks like the ancient redwoods and park summit. Along the way, hikers can expect history lessons, wildlife sightings, and breathtaking vistas of Sonoma County's fall landscapes.

How to Participate

Participants can sign up for individual hikes or commit to the entire series. The cost is $15 per hike or $60 for all five hikes (if registered by Sept. 7). Be sure to bring hiking shoes, plenty of water, and a sense of adventure!
Note: There is a $10 day-use fee per vehicle for parking at the park, so carpooling is encouraged.

All hikes except the Historic Orchard hike will begin in the Ranch parking lot (turn right after entering the park).
