Where Farm Meets Fun: Your Ultimate Guide to the 2025 Sonoma-Marin Fair

The Sonoma-Marin Fair is proud to support the youth of our agricultural community through 4-H and FFA. The livestock barns are more than just a place to house animals—they represent months of hard work, learning, and dedication by the young men and women who raise and care for each animal. These barns are open to all fairgoers, so come meet the exhibitors, learn something new, and celebrate local agriculture in action.

1. Youth Exhibitors (4-H & FFA)

Our livestock barns wouldn’t exist without the commitment of 4-H and FFA members. These students—ranging from elementary school through high school—spend countless hours feeding, grooming, exercising, and monitoring the health of their animals. They learn recordkeeping, responsibility, and the value of hard work. Ask them about their projects—they’ll gladly share their knowledge and the story behind each animal.

2. Cattle Barn

In the cattle barn, you'll see powerful market steers and graceful heifers, each cared for with precision and patience. Exhibitors learn how to safely handle large animals, clip and groom them for show, and lead them confidently in front of judges. These animals are often the result of a year-long commitment and are shown in both breeding and market categories. Watch for the show ring schedule to see them in action.

3. Swine Barn

Pigs may not be the quietest animals at the fair, but they are some of the most engaging. In the swine barn, you’ll hear the grunts and snorts of well-fed pigs ranging from 200 to 300 pounds. Exhibitors guide their pigs through the show ring with a sorting board, showing their knowledge of movement, muscle tone, and health. It’s equal parts technique and teamwork—and always a crowd-pleaser.

4. Sheep & Goat Barn

In this shared barn, you’ll find both wooly sheep and energetic goats. Whether they’re being raised for meat, milk, or fiber, these animals require daily attention and specialized care. From trimming hooves to managing diet and grooming fleece, exhibitors gain hands-on experience that’s both educational and demanding. Visit during the show to see the careful coordination of young handlers and their animals on display.

5. Poultry & Rabbit Barn

Step into the poultry and rabbit barn for a look at the fair’s smallest (but often most beloved) livestock. From heritage chickens and showy roosters to fluffy bunnies and sleek meat rabbits, there’s a lot to admire. Exhibitors focus on cleanliness, cage display, animal condition, and breed standards. It’s a great stop for families and kids, and a wonderful opportunity to learn how much work goes into raising even the tiniest animals.

6. Showmanship Competitions

Showmanship is where everything comes together. These judged events highlight not just the animal’s quality, but the exhibitor’s knowledge, poise, and handling skills. You’ll see young people demonstrate everything from how to lead a steer to how to pose a rabbit, all under pressure. The confidence and composure they display are a testament to their hard work—and showmanship often counts just as much as the animal itself.

Plan Your Visit
Don’t just walk past the barns—walk through them. The youth of Sonoma and Marin counties have poured their time, heart, and effort into every project. You’ll leave with a greater understanding of agriculture, animal husbandry, and the importance of youth development programs.

Support, learn, and celebrate—you’re invited to be part of something truly meaningful at this year’s Sonoma-Marin Fair.
